Why not a Russian army?!!
And I admit to being addicted to games. But I’m not exactly a ‘kid’…

How many of you guys have done the 3D sound fix for STALKER? It ships with stereo only, but if you overwrite the openal32.dll with one from a proper 3d sound game, it works perfectly!

That damn Subway commercial Norm mentioned pisses me off, in my opinion they’re saying that playing video games will make you fat so you should counter that by eating Subway. If this is true the Fata1ty either isn’t as much of a gamer as he wants us to think he is or he eats a ton of Subway.
April 6th, 2007 at 1:31 am
Sorry for the double post but Gary’s right C&C 3 FTW! If you’re just starting Act III you’re in for three of the hardest missions in the GDI campaign.
April 6th, 2007 at 4:49 am
Quake Wars: Things to consider: OpenGL, OpenAL, Linux and Mac versions (along with Windows) [think, Vista Only]. Also, if Carmack still wants to release the D3 engine under the GPL then integrating all the proprietary closed source fluff required for Live Anywhere might not be in id’s best interest.
April 6th, 2007 at 5:23 am
Jeremy, IMO the third season of Battlestar Galactica is great, it might lacked the space combat but it has more ground combat now. But well ,it do focused more on the drama now instead of the Human-Cylon Combat
April 6th, 2007 at 6:58 am
Hey Gary I’ve played 2417 hours (not all at once) of Second Life, so yes people DO play Second Life. And virtual worlds are getting popular even Sony is beta testing one for the PS3 called Home.
April 6th, 2007 at 8:15 am
Next video podcast C&C3 match yes?
great cast as usual
April 6th, 2007 at 8:36 am

April 6th, 2007 at 11:01 am
Meh…
April 6th, 2007 at 11:34 am
OMG Peggle! No time to get work done anymore… It just needs a boss button now.
April 6th, 2007 at 11:48 am
Company of Heroes Expansion…. thats wicked…. i’ve been yearning for more of it lately.
must listen to podcast now.
edit: Not an expansion… wicked! I love dark crusade!
April 6th, 2007 at 4:22 pm
What were the cops about?
April 6th, 2007 at 5:38 pm
For a while I used a Wacom tablet to play Counter-Strike: Source. Amazingly fun.
April 6th, 2007 at 5:45 pm
Oh, and I just tried plugging my 360 guitar hero controller in Vista, and it registers perfect. In the Game Controllers menu it even lists it as the X-plorer guitar.
April 6th, 2007 at 6:40 pm
The business with the police didn’t end up amounting to much–there was a crowd that quickly dissipated, and we didn’t even see the cops get out of their car. We did, however, notice that the police car had no lights or sirens on its roof. But that’s about all there is to report on that. Sorry it wasn’t anything juicier.

And now some words about Jack Thompson possibly finally losing his license to practice law:

Norm or any one else in fact,
How did you get those screenshots of Company of Heroes for the Strategy edition of PC Gamer? I can’t seem to zoom out that far but would love to. Is there a mod? The link would be appreciated - thanks for the pod and all.

I’m just catching up with old pc gamer podcasts, so here a few comments on old episodes (sorry ’bout that!):
Games that would make good movies: how about The Longest Journey? Great story line, fun characters, interesting sets. Seems like it would be a natural.
Great all-time games: I’m always surprised that none of you mention Warcraft 2. I’m sure you all played it, but it doesn’t seem to be a favorite for anyone. I absolutely loved that game and played it in co-op mode with my wife fanatically. We had a serial cable connection between our two computers, which was harder than it sounds because we were in different rooms and had to drag out and run cable down the hallway. I eventually just drilled a hole in the wall.

About the alleged FBI investigation in SL.
April 7th, 2007 at 11:26 pm
Ok I started playing Peggle at 11pm, and completed the Adventures by 4am, and now it’s onto the “Challenges” which are damn near impossible.
Extremely addictive.

STALKER is using assets from id’s Doom 3 and Valve’s Half-Life 2 without their consent.
April 8th, 2007 at 9:48 am
So I finally started listening to the current podcast… what’s going on at the beginning? It sounded like you were all extremely annoyed with one another. Poor Norm is trying to get people to talk and he’s practically having to pull teeth to do it.
April 8th, 2007 at 3:12 pm
I wonder what kind of game platform did the game addiction report reffered to but I think PC gaming is far more addictive than console gaming since the succes of MMORPG’s and the amount of time required for this genre.
April 8th, 2007 at 3:34 pm
Did anyone here manage to beat that “Clear the level with only one ball” challenge in Peggle? I DID! It’s pretty fun getting there. Also, is it just me or does anyone else squirm around in their seat when the ball falls OH SO CLOSE to the basket, like you’re trying to will it in??
I had to uninstall the game because I knew I would never get any work done.
April 8th, 2007 at 9:55 pm
You beat an entire level with one ball?? I haven’t even seen that one yet. Which magic power did you use? Zen?
FOLLOW-UP: I just played it and honestly it was quite easy compared to the big points levels. Took about four tries, using the jack-o-lantern dude, whereas I spent all day trying to hit “300 KILOPOINTS.”

Gears of War coming to PC some day. Officially announced.
http://interviews.teamxbox.com/xbox/1893/Mark-Rein-Interview/p1/
April 9th, 2007 at 3:41 pm
Heh, sorry Zuljin, that doesn’t count as an official announcement. Mark Rein has been saying that kind of thing for months, it’s just a matter of MS putting out the actual official announcement.
April 9th, 2007 at 3:49 pm
It’s more official than last time. Now we know what it really is coming; before it was just… eh, maybe.
Also I hate Peggle. Such an addicting game. DAMN IT!
April 9th, 2007 at 11:02 pm
Quake Wars looks awesome
April 10th, 2007 at 5:29 am
Licensed music in a game triggered by certain events? One word.. Prey. It didn’t do it a lot but there is the obvious example of the bar juke box that played certain songs in a couple of parts. I liked how it played “Don’t fear the reaper” as the characters where being abducted and later “barracuda” in a gravity puzzle part.
April 10th, 2007 at 3:24 pm
Ubisoft licensed Godsmack’s “Stand Alone” for Prince of Persia: Warrior Within and in the majority of the reviews I read on that game it was one of the things the game got consistently marked down for because the music didn’t fit the theme of the game.
April 10th, 2007 at 4:49 pm
As a gamer who is against some of the games for windows requirements (Parental controls) im happy to see quake wars not use it.
April 10th, 2007 at 7:07 pm
Terrorist Organizations, FBI, and Politicians in second life. Seems as if Second Life is turning into real life.
April 11th, 2007 at 1:18 am
Hmmmm almost, don’t have to pay taxes…yet.
April 12th, 2007 at 8:33 am
That demo Jeremy posted is really awesome but the coolest thing about it is its size, apparently the textures are generated by the code itself and not stored as image files… still awesome.
April 12th, 2007 at 10:16 pm
What is this Peggle that you have infested me with Sir Logan of the Julii. This virus must be contained and kept safe away from the world.
April 16th, 2007 at 5:02 pm
The best use of score music in a game was Relic’s use of Samual Barber’s Adagio for Strings used in homeworld. The haunting choral sequence and the emotion inherent in the story brought me almost to tears.
April 22nd, 2007 at 3:04 pm
Oh my god guys.
Peggle: Made. Of. Awesome.
I haven’t had this much fun playing a game since… well… Doom. *ducks*
April 23rd, 2007 at 1:41 pm
hmm, i don’t know. peggle has its moments, but its still basically a pinball game with a lot of bumpers…maybe the environment changes later on, but yeah, i guess its decent. i guess these are the cool game mechanics that author was looking for, though..
