Sounds good. Wasn’t particularly excited about Shadowrun anyway.

Is HL2 Deathmatch even any good?
June 1st, 2007 at 3:02 am
@fifpro good for a laugh, and it’s more like you’re laughing at the game than with it.
June 1st, 2007 at 7:39 am
What is that picture, Greg??
June 1st, 2007 at 8:03 am
They seemed to have fucked up on the system specs of shadowrun somewhere because according to the shadowrun website:
Q: What is the recommended spec for the game?
A: The game is at its best on a dual core machine. You’ll want an nVidia 7800 card or better with 256MB of RAM, or an ATI X1800 or better with 256MB of RAM. You’ll also want 2GB of system RAM. The game’s playable on a P4 3.2 or higher with an X800 or 6800, but that’s bare minimum. Most PC FPS players are going to want the superior gaming experience that the higher spec offers. And yes, Vista only. The game will not run on XP at all.

I hope Dan gives us his opinion of the new patch for Company of Heroes that enables DirectX 10. Is it worth it to jump up to a DirectX 10 card?
June 1st, 2007 at 11:21 am
Haven’t had the chance to try it yet, Mervin - the patch came out just as we wrapped up the podcast. I’ll give it a try, though, and we’ll talk about it next week.

iBuyPower is the biggest garbage pile in the history of computers. They use the cheapest motherboards, RAM, and Power Supplies (IE the most important parts of your computer)
DO NOT BUY FROM iBUYPOWER.COM
June 1st, 2007 at 12:57 pm
I… disagree. My iBuyPower laptop is working great for me.
June 1st, 2007 at 1:27 pm
Couple of things. Google’s new Street View shows people’s faces as well as license plate numbers. Not sure if thats a good thing.
Also I got an Ibuypower pc myself couple years ago and yes their customer support does kind of suck but I did get some help sometimes. One word of warning as what ScottMaximus is saying is that they do use cheap hardware. So make sure to select something better or just leave it out and get the part yourself. I’m still using some parts from the old Ibuypower pc I had, HDD and drives but thats about it. Oh and floppy too!
June 1st, 2007 at 4:46 pm
ScottMaximus, you’re an idiot. IBUYPOWER uses whatever you tell them to use when you build a system, just like if you were building it yourself. I’ve used them for purchasing PC’s for several people I know & family members, and all of the systems exceeded my expectations, while at the same time saving their pocketbooks. IBUYPOWER makes good machines at a good value. I’d recommend them 100 times before telling someone to buy a machine from a electronics chain store.
I’m not sure how their phone tech support is, but I’ve had great experience with their phone sales support people AND my brother had one of their in-home techs come out (he bought the extended in-home warranty) and it was fast & thorough, and the tech did a great job.

Dan, buddy, i’m dying to know what that picture was. The masochist in me would love to have the same reactions you guys did. So, if its just too F’in nasty for a link to be posted here, is there a few key words to google….?
June 1st, 2007 at 9:19 pm
I assure you, I did not look at any of Greg’s links. I learned that lesson years ago.
June 1st, 2007 at 9:44 pm
This is the information age.
Everything nobody wants to know about you has been available for years, and the ability to look around in an online map program doesn’t change that one bit.
e-paranoia tinfoil hat wearers annoy the hell out of me.
These are non-real time images captured from a public street. I swear the “oh man big brother!” sentiment is more of a knee jerk reaction anymore.
What debate is to be had? There is no reason why they can’t post images on the internet taken from a public forum. You guys took a legal/ethical class at some point in JMC school, right? So there might be a picture of my house on the internet taken months ago. It’s not like you haven’t been able to find my apartment on regular maps for years now.

Can someone delete that last one? I hit enter on accident and didn’t edit it all in time.
So many comments!….
-For IBuyPower. I got to admit they got some awsome custom options you can choose from. But when I built the same thing at Alienware I saved some money and got some better deals.
-With ATIs offer….. When HL2 came out if you bought the Radeon 9800 then you got HL2 for free (although the delay of the game made us wait) along with EVERY HL related game like HL, HL:Blushift, HL: Opposing Forces, CS, CS Source, DOD, DOD Source, TFC, Ricochet, DM Classic and pretty much everything that comes out since then including Lost Coast and what not.
-Shadowrun only using XP is ashame. I refuse to use Vista. Everyone know never to buy a new OS when it comes out, its weak points are always taken advantage of by hackers. Not to mention new OS’s are always way to buggy at first. Anyways I already hear a few people complaining that their older games don’t run now that they installed Vista among other things like its “intrusive” when you install new games (whatever that means).
Forcing people to go it and then telling them that if they also want the new DX10 effects and what not that they need Vista also scares people away. Heck I can play any Vista game on my 360. Consoles are looking cheaper to play on now then a PC. Maybe I’ll wait a year for a PC with Vista if I have to and prices will drop.

Starcraft: my wife and I dug out our old copies. I really enjoy playing it but I’m also reminded of things that drove me nuts, particularly related to pathing. For example, units that acknowledge orders that they can’t carry out because they are trapped and can’t move. Or a force that is told to come down a ramp and the trail units decide to turn around and run the other way, because the lead units are temporarily blocking the ramp while they move. Or places where it looks like units have enough room to go thru, but they don’t. And don’t get me started on the Goliaths, those things seem to all be run by guys with death wishes and epilepsy.
What this adds up to is I’d love it if Blizzard was really putting some effort into AI and pathing rather than just eye candy and racial play styles. Any indication from talking to them as to whether they recognized pathing and related AI issues as a problem they need to address?
2nd question: So if there’s a WoW movie coming, and Gary is a famous game writer who is a dedicated WoW player, is there a chance Gary might be involved in the movie? Or does this fall under the usual “no comment”?
June 4th, 2007 at 2:19 pm
How do you spell that small game you guys always talk about. PEGLE?? PEGO?
June 4th, 2007 at 2:55 pm
Hakkatack, it’s called GOOGLE.
No, seriously, it’s Peggle. http://www.popcap.com/games/peggle?s_kwcid=peggle|1936876728

Where can I find the new video on Bioshock? I checked the videos on the official website but they don’t list them by date. Can you help me out Jeremy?
June 5th, 2007 at 12:37 pm
New Bioshock vid. Click the little icon to watch it fullscreen.
June 5th, 2007 at 4:57 pm
FALLOUT 3 Video also!
June 5th, 2007 at 5:17 pm
Thanks Jeremy. Did you check out the X06 trailer also? That video really made me wince. If anybody wants to experience getting your face smashed in by a Big Daddy, I’d highly recommend it. Especially if you have quality sound cranked up.

2008 is gonna be a great year, Starcraft 2 and Fallout 3… mmmmmm old series goodness.

By theWAY, Mike figgis did not get arrested, was an exageration,
http://boingboing.net/2007/05/31/mike_figgis_that_tsa.html
the story is a complete exageration of something I said in an interview, namely…I was being questioned in toronto airport by the US immigration officer who said “purpose of your visit?” and I was about to reply “I’m here to shoot a pilot” when I thought better of it and said
“I’m here to film the 1st episode of a potential series for Fox/Sony”
This was exactly as I said it to the journalist and the next I knew of it was phone calls wishing me deepest…blah blah
June 6th, 2007 at 6:52 am
Great job there, editor-man.
Here’s a hot tip, Greg. Learn what words mean before you say them. Garfield isn’t sycophantic. When people on your podcast actually laugh at the crap that comes out of your mouth? They are sycophantic. Garfield is actually pandering. Kind of like you, you pandering douchebag.
Anyway, classy editorial in your latest issue. I look forward to the next issue where your cover is Starcraft 2 and your editorial is ‘I always thought Starcraft sucked and was for losers and Blizzard basically makes crap.’ Oh wait. You won’t do that. Blizzard owns your balls with their ad revenue.
Douche.
June 6th, 2007 at 9:36 pm
don’t read/listen if you don’t like, it obviously makes you look like some 60 year old’s wife on pms.
June 6th, 2007 at 11:13 pm
I can’t think of any 60 year old females who didn’t have menopause kick in :p
June 7th, 2007 at 9:12 am
by the way the comment that goggle street view can be used to stalk people was so retarded I kept rolling my eyes and asking for someone to say something about it, but it never happened.
you will be lucky if they update street view once a year, driving a car with a mounted camera shooting facades of buildings is considered invasion of privacy and stalking material as much as Japanese tourists are considered random stalkers.
June 7th, 2007 at 10:09 am
I could be wrong (sarcasm), but I do believe the comment was that the Google Streetview was just a first step, and the real issue is, “what’s next?”
You give them an inch, they’ll take a mile. It’s that same sort of thing. As technology progresses, it won’t be updated once a year. Is it so infeasible to consider future advances? Or are you so trusting of your fellow man? ‘Cuz he would NEVER stab you in the back… god forbid.
June 7th, 2007 at 12:11 pm
I will be sending this question on .mp3 format but wanted to ask here to group.
I am a student at Westwood College Online for game art and design, currently we are working on our own game project for GDC. Shadowrun was a major let down to all of us that knew about it in school, and it was also the point of many conversations on what “not to do” with a title when remaking a game. Why did FASA and Microsoft go so far away from the original concepts and history of the game? I would think that if you wanted to show off VISTA, you would produce a great MMORPG or RPG game to compete with Final Fantasy or World of Warcraft. Not make a game that really only competes with Halo,
This game has that potential, what was the thought process and why? Are we being taught wrong in the lesson in regards to “know your audience”?
Any Idea’s of when a version that is more historically correct is going to be produced?
RPG/ MMORPG for shadowrun?
Thank you for your time, and I don’t mean to sound harsh, that is not the intention, it is to better understand why…and from your boards, I think that alot of fans would like to know your point of view.
Thank You
Joshua Jones

Of course, the first abuse of street view will be advertising: people holding up boards advertising their business as the truck drives by. Then, streetview will cause the price of a regular, stationary, billboard on a highway to go up exponentially.
June 8th, 2007 at 4:51 am
I trust the fact that you can’t have enough cars with mounted cameras to map every street of every city more than once a year, if you’re lucky.
and I trust the fact that people will not know when the cars are coming, so having a billboard up for an entire year to get lucky and have your pepsi sing on a picture on google view is going to be hardly cost effective.
June 10th, 2007 at 6:22 pm
There is no such thing as a “right to privacy” in public places. Also, in your garage example, you are not actively trying to maintain your privacy, therefore you have none. If you want privacy, close the door.
And if you don’t like this Google street view thing, move to the country. I live in a town of 6k people and you’re just about guaranteed to be ignored by google for their mapping stuff. Google earth doesn’t even zoom in far enough to tell the cars in our driveway from the house itself.
June 13th, 2007 at 3:49 pm
3d Animator,
People would know when they’re coming. All you’d need is one leak or something.
