That Windows Advisor IMO is not very good. I recently came across a site that has a pretty good estimator for system requirements for games: http://www.yougamers.com
Its still in beta, but seems to work fairly well so far.
And if you’re looking for someone to play ET:QW with…

Ok Gary, now i hate Jack Thompson and people like him as much as the next guy but im gonna have to let you know that your statement about nintendo is False. I am a soildier in the US Army and when I went to basic training in 2002 we used a Super Nintendo to train for marksmenship. Although I believe that the “game” was not licenced by nintendo because when you turned it on you didnt get any of the normal nintendo flash screens it just went straight to the “game” portion. The controller was a rubber M-16 with a light gun built into it and it was used to evaluate a soldiers ability to control breathing and trigger squeeze while firing at point on the screen. A simulated firing range basicly.

Great podcast. The only thing I dont get is why Blizzard bought the fan site.
June 29th, 2007 at 12:27 pm
blizzard didn’t buy the fan site. it was a media company. sorry if there was any confusion.

According to http://www.mmogchart.com Final Fantasy XI has 500,000 users, with a peak userbase in June ‘05 of 600,000 users. The game has been more successful than Everquest or Ultima Online and it’s only currently surpassed by WoW, Lineage, Lineage II and Runescape.

Hi this is Thomas, the original sender about the Lt. Col Grossman book. To Turley714, I think the argument Grossman was trying to make is that the military uses video games to train soldiers to bypass every humans innate resistance to kill. Even though you used games in Boot Camp, I dont think the Army’s intention was to desensitize you to violence. I too am in the military, and in my experience with violence desensitization, the military uses pictures and video of real life violence instead of video games. BTW, the Army didnt make the “America’s Army” video game to desensitize future soldiers to violence, they made it to advertise, and nothing more.

I have always been a big fan of the Guild Wars Collector Editions.
Take Nightfall, for example, you get a collector’s mini-pet, a special dance, game sound track, art book, making of DVD, exclusive in game music, 2 collector skill pins, Varesh cardboard standup, 16×24 map, and a poster.
Is any of it necessary to the game or a ‘must’ have? No, but it is a pretty good dose of goodies for an extra $10. Why not?

Whoops my bad Norm.

Jeremy, if you haven’t corrected the podcast already, Gahz was able to slip the words “b-llsh-t” and “bl-w j-b” early on the first half of the podcast. I don’t have the exact time stamps on them, I figure somebody else with the time will post em eventually. I never knew Gahz was such a vulgar dude — then again he IS British (zing!).
And shame on those of you who didn’t post this sooner. Won’t somebody pleeeze think of the children??

Daffygremlin: Honestly, I couldn’t care less if the podcast had expletives bleeped or not. But it’s important that PCG keeps the same quality in editing as it always has up to this point. Jeremy has always done an excellent job keeping it clean, and if something gets by him, I think it should be pointed out to him right away. This podcast has always been appropriate to all listeners, not just us mature folk. And in case you couldn’t figure it out by my joke at the end, I was being sarcastic.
Edit: Thank you Vagabond

I agree with you nebelwerfer the game we used to train with wasn’t violent at all, we were just shooting at a range target. I was just arguing the point to Gary that the Army did in fact use a nintendo product to train its soldiers. Thanks.

Hey Jeremy, when did you guys record this podcast? I sent a question on Sunday night, and it didn’t get aired? I put the title as PCGP Question, so I dunno if your gmail filtered me out.
What gives?

Bamboo: Does it really matter if the worlds arent bleeped out. Blow job and bull shit aren’t that bad and I personally like it better unedited.

I can’t imagine why anyone would be excited about a new Soldier of Fortune, the original games weren’t that good anyway - mediocre at best. Besides, the SoF games seem like typical artifacts of their time to me, that kind of gameplay is really outdated by now.

I never played the original but the new one sounds like its going to suck.

I picked up Sof II in a bargain bin not too long ago. Wasn’t bad, not great but still good fun.

I wanted to comment on how I don’t think that a utility would be totally useful to some people for knowing if they would like how a game runs on their system. The reason why I say this is because what some people would accept as far as that goes is actually pretty subjective. This goes for performance, looks, etc.
July 7th, 2007 at 5:59 am
about people talking about things they don’t know about. Do know about the saying “it’s not a truck.. it’s a series of tubes”?
July 14th, 2007 at 6:42 pm
Jeremy could you post Gary’s interview with Dave Grossman like fifpro suggested? I love to see it too. Tried searching but it doesn’t seem to available anywhere on the web.
