PCGP Episode 7
Rob Loftus, executive producer of Monolith’s hot new supernatural shooter F.E.A.R., joins us to talk about the game and opening day jitters.
We also discuss this week’s amazing slate of releases and the virtues of the various frag-fest multiplayer shooters, take listener MP3 questions, and talk about what we’re playing this week. Plus, we announce a shakeup in the PC Gamer staff that will change all our lives forever! …Except D.J.’s.

Keep these comming, they are exactly what I need. DAN you can’t leave PCG! If you got promoted, where does that put you? The Vede as EIC?! I love the vede but he has always been, “the funny hardware guy who loves diablo” to me. I know hes a senior editor too but I need an EIC with commitment to the pc and not his xbox. Sorry, it is just that I have grown up with PCG and feel so strongly about what you guys do. Also, were you not able to contact anyone directly at monolith for the interview? I know I was expecting some monolith guys to talk about F.E.A.R on todays show and it may have been slightly more interesting.
Thanks for another fine podcast

NORM OUR THOUGHTS ARE WITH YOU! but whats the deal with Farcry Instincts?

Don’t worry BloOdymAN, Dan isn’t leaving. He’s just been bumped up the ladder a notch to Associate Producer, so he’ll still be around, but the actual hands-on running of the magazine has been passed on to Greg, who is more than capable of being both goofy and an effective EIC. Besides, as long as Diablo doesn’t come out on Xbox, you need never question his undying devotion to the PC. Actually, I’m the only guy around here who doesn’t play console games at all, ’cause I’m too much of a snob.
And Rob Loftus IS directly from Monolith. Producers are pretty much the head honchos of a game - not quite as hands-on with the coding and stuff as the lead developers, but as knowledgable as anyone.

Thanks for the reply DJ. Im relieved to hear that you think the mag is in good hands. Whoops about assuming Rob Loftus wasn’t from Monolith, I just got the impression of him as more of a suit type and immediatley assumed publisher. Not that there is anything negative about that and besides, he was a great guest regardless.
Additionally, it is great news to learn that there is at least ONE person at PCG who shuns the console completely. Hooray for the snobby.

Another great episode, guys. Fantastic idea getting Rob Loftus on the show on F.E.A.R. ship day. I bought the game that day and listening to the episode really ramped up my excitement level. I hope you can do this for other games *cough*COD2*cough*

I just noticed that I said Dan had been promoted to Associate Producer instead of Associate Publisher. I had producers on the brain.

I got the new issue of the magazine and saw on the contents page that you guys made a podcast. Brilliant idea! I’ve listened to a couple of the ones you’ve made so far and they’re great. Thanks for putting in the extra time. Now I won’t have to wait a month to get gaming news from the best and most reliable source. (You guys.) Keep them coming!

I bet The Vede was happy to be promoted to the position of PCG EIC. Now he can afford to marry his one true love, Robo-Sapien.

Aaargh! Why does everyone think Rag Doll Kung Fu is on Source? Surely a single glance proves otherwise?
People on forums, sure, but PCG? How could you?
*simmers*

Actually, I didn’t realize Norm said it was ON the HL2 engine until editing. I did say that it was made by a guy at Lionhead (Mark Healey), but sorry for the bad information.

How could you say those horrible things about Deus Ex 2? I loved that game, except for the trite ending. As a big fan of the first and second games I think the storylines, action, and even graphics (they introduced dynamic lighting, remember) can’t be beat. I mean if you didn’t like Deus Ex 2 at the time, what cutting-edge story-driven free-form FPS did you prefer? There weren’t any!

Glad to hear people give props to Undying and especially System Shock 2

hey..just reliving the glory of the old podcasts, which I didn’t listen to very well. I agree doctorowl (if you ever look at this again) - Deus ex 2 was definately a good game…but you play it and you feel like its just a watered down version of deus ex. I mean, the game was really easy - that was my main problem
